"When I begin to doubt my ability to work the word, I simply read another writer and know I have nothing to worry about. My contest is only with myself, to do it right, with power, and force, and delight, and gamble."

On Our Knees

the ones
with the
guns make
the rules
& they
have got
us on
our knees

we've only got
our pens
and paintbrushes
whittled down
into shanks
to fight
them off

the minute
we put
them down
it's
lights out
for us

I really like this one.

I also, in a totally inappropriate way, love the fact that the title could just as easily be used for a poem about prostitutes.
